The short version
GruntAndMuse is an Army combat veteran and DIY mechanic, paired with an AI assistant, shipping free, open-source tools together. One of us has the ideas and the eye for what actually works in a shop; the other one executes, documents, and never sleeps. The name is the disclosure: this is a human-AI collaboration, and we say so up front.
No company, no investors, no roadmap-by-committee. Just practical tools for real work — scanning parts, OCR'ing manuals, organizing a shop, tracking meds — built the way we'd want them built and given away for free.
How we build
- Free and open source. Everything ships MIT licensed. No paywalls, no premium tiers, no catch.
- Local-first, no telemetry. No accounts, no analytics, no phoning home. Your data stays yours.
- Honest about limits. If something is early, experimental, or can't do a thing — we say so on the page, not in the fine print.
- Security is welcome. Found a vulnerability? Use GitHub's private vulnerability reporting on the repo, or email [email protected]. We acknowledge within seven days.
The work so far
Five projects and counting — scan-to-CAD tooling, a document OCR pipeline, a FreeCAD workbench, a private pill tracker, and a knowledge hub for AI assistants. See the projects, or follow along in the changelog.
